Walk with the King Today!

Dr. Robert (Bob) Cook conducted his daily radio broadcast, The King’s Hour, for 29 years, and they are still being aired on Family Radio and other stations. One of his most recognizable and famous lines is his closing; “Until I meet you once again by way of radio, walk with the King today and be a blessing!”

The biblical warrant for this line comes from Ephesians 2:10; “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.”

This follows a most famous verse that is often quoted and memorized, “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.” (Ephesians 2:8-9)

We are saved through faith alone. It is a gift. But why? The answer? We are saved to serve the Lord with good works. Walking is an intentional act. The call is to serve intentionality—serve the Lord proactively with the skills He has generously imparted to us.

A favorite verse is “Righteousness (The Lord) goes before him and prepares the way for his steps.” Psalm 85:13 where it says the Lord makes a path for our steps. Again, we must be walking to see the Lord prepare the way for a good kingdom outcome. As we serve Him by walking with Him, He often accomplishes far greater things than we could ask or think in order to make us a blessing. “Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us …”Eph 3:20

Walk over to an assignment that the Lord has prepared for you at MissionNext. There are wonderful opportunities to serve that are surprisingly well-suited to how the Lord has created and prepared you.

He was a founding elder at Walnut Hill Community Church in Bethel, CT (1982) and served in many leadership capacities of what is now one of the largest Evangelical churches in New England. In 1998 Nelson founded the Finishers Project, now MissionNext. Locally he attends a Torah study and is chairman of the sewer commission to serve among unchurched leaders.

  1. Wonderful thoughts…and as we walk He only gives us enough light for each step. “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light onto my path.” (Psalm 119:105). When we stay in the Word and close to Him our steps are brightly lit.
